About

About Us

In their retirement, Emmanuel And Margaret Ita, saw the need of villages where people live simply by subsistence farming.

Due to their lack of money, when sickness comes they submit themselves to fate as medical care is far away and costly. Many die, mothers lose their babies and sometimes their own lives in childbirth. Many children die before they are 5years old. This prompted the birth of FREE MEDICAL CARE at the UNWANA- ORO CHRISTIAN MISSIONARY CENTRE.

This is a Charity organisation that reaches out to the people in Akwa Ibom state in Nigeria by meeting their medical and physical needs. It is a Christian based organisation and teaches about the love of Jesus.

Its headquarters is in Oron, Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria.

History

UnwanaOro Christian Medical Centre (U.C.M.C.) is in the Ekim village situated about 10 Km. from Oron town on an untarred road in Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria.

Open air meetings were held in Ekim village  in January 2007 along with a successful free medical outreach.  The need for medical help in the village was very obvious.

An ‘IBOK UWEM’ Programme (medicine for health) was held for 6 months from September 2007 till February 2008 for 60 babies under 2 years in Ekim village. All babies were given multivitamins and blood tonic free of charge monthly for the 6 months.  This programme was very successful and much appreciated. It was sponsored by New Life Christian Centre, Derby England.

At its conclusion the village Chief requested our Mission Doctor to continue to visit and help the village.  After two months God  showed the way forward. An abandoned building in the village was donated to us and thoroughly renovated. It was opened on 20th September 2008 and dedicated to God to be a blessing to the people of Ekim and surrounding villages and has functioned since then.

A team from New Life Christian Centre Derby (NLCC) visited Ekim in April 2009 when a borehold to provide good drinking water free of charge was dedicated  and  is greatly appreciated by the villagers.

Then in January 2010 the lovely hospital equipment sent by NLCC arrived  and has so greatly improved the status of UCMC.
Also in 2010, UCMC branched out to surrounding villages with the Gospel and Free Medical Treatment. These were held monthly and attended each time by over 200 patients. Welfare packages including clothing are provided when available.

In February, 2011 the Maternity Department was opened with weekly Antenatal and Children’s Clinics providing free treatment and drugs and these have been well attended. The experienced midwife regularly gives talks to all ages of women on hygiene, nutrition etc. which have proved most useful. In June, 2011 the first babies were delivered in the Centre.

God bless you all.
Margaret Ita.

Prayer Needs

PLEASE PRAY FOR DR. IBIEZUGBE

He has been the Medical Director of UCMC from September 2008. He is indeed our Gift from God – dedicated, trusted, hardworking, and a man of God.

PLEASE PRAY FOR:

  • The UCMC Chapel where he is the Pastor. It holds Sunday Services, Bible Studies and Prayer Meetings.
  • His Staff Fellowship and Prayer meetings. This takes place every Wednesday at Oron Clinic and on Fridays at Ekim.
  • He oversees all the clinics: Antenatal, Children’s, HIV/AIDS, Outpatients and all maintenance.
  • He leads the monthly Village Pastors’ Prayer and Fellowship for 11 Pastors all from different denominations. Please pray, like Jesus, ‘That they will be one’.
  • He oversees the weekly bible club for children held at the Ekim village every Wednesday. It is led by UCMC staff.

Get Involved

Get Involved

As all treatment and drugs are provided free to all the villagers who are unable to pay anything, financial assistance is greatly needed for the work to continue. All the staff are paid minimal allowances, also the bore hole, generator, motor bike and four wheel drive ambulance all need maintenance.

A new off road vehicle is desperately needed for the Medical Centre, to act as an Ambulance and get supplies to the Hospital.

How can you get involved?

Individual contributions:
This would be greatly appreciated as it would go a long way to help the cause. Any amount, large or small would be greatly appreciated. It can be given as a monthly contribution or a single gift.
If you would like to help in this way please donate (see below) or contact us for monthly contributions

Group or Church contributions:
If your organisation or church is interested in supporting this village work in either cash or kind, this would be very much appreciated. We can also be invited to come and give a presentation in your church or organisation about the activities of the Medical Centre. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are interested.

Volunteering:
Any voluntary medical personnel would always be welcome, as there is always a need for helpers.

Prayer:
The village name EKIM means DARKNESS; UNWANA means LIGHT.
Please pray that the LIGHT OF GOD’S LOVE will dispel the darkness of fear, superstition and pagan beliefs in these villages. Pray that the love of God shown by the Medical Centre may bring many to receive not only healing but peace, forgiveness and blessing from God.

Urgent Needs:
Due to the bad access roads which are very muddy and not motorable to cars, the four wheel drive (off road) vehicle regularly needs attention as it acts as an Ambulance when referring patients who need surgery and transports staff to and from the medical centre. Also it is needed to transport the Doctor and Midwife especially in the wet season. Maintaining this vehicle is in addition to the monthly requirements needed for drugs, treatment, staff allowances and maintenance.
